TECHNICIAN & CREW WORK
In addition to creative work, I enjoy spending time putting in some physical labour behind the scenes, especially on overnight get outs and set construction.
I began my behind the scenes work when I volunteered to run the sound mixer for my middle school choir at age 13. My crew work continued throughout high school as a board and spotlight operator. My education in theatre developed further in college when I enrolled in a stagecraft course and got proper training with power tools. Ever since, I’ve loved the construction elements of film and theatre as well as the technical. I currently freelance as a duty technician at the Arcola (Dalston) and The Yard (Hackney), and am eager to get involved with more crew work in London.
Some jobs I do:
- heavy lifting (up to 100kg) - using basic power tools - working at height on ladders and scaffold (up to 5.5m)
- rigging lights, sound equipment, and cables along a grid - organising workshop and storage spaces
- regular studio maintenance (power on/off, rig checks, fire panel isolation, boiler use)
- furniture construction - set building, painting, and wallpapering
- equipment maintenance
